Product Update - Better Handling of Complex Excel Layouts

Squadbase can now import Excel files with complex layouts — merged cells, multi-level headers, and sheets that don’t follow a consistent structure — while preserving the meaning of each column when converting them into your Squadbase DB.

What’s Supported

We’ve added support for Excel files with characteristics like:

  • Schedule tables and Gantt charts, where rows represent items and columns represent time periods (weeks, months, quarters)
  • Workbooks with many sheets, each using a different layout
  • Headers that span multiple levels — for example, row headers like “Initiative → Task,” or column headers like “Fiscal Year → Quarter”
  • Heavy use of merged cells for headers and footnotes

Squadbase now parses these nested headers and layout differences, and organizes them into meaningful columns — like “Fiscal Year,” “Quarter,” or “Period” — instead of flattening everything into raw cell coordinates. This goes well beyond financial statements and integrated reports: project schedules, campaign plans, and all kinds of internal reporting formats can now be imported as-is and used directly in your dashboards.
